Catering at the Jersey Shore
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working again with Kathy, the owner of Kamy’s Kitchen, a popular catering business located right in Sea Isle City, NJ. Kathy reached out to me to update her food photography portfolio as well as take a new portrait for her About page on her website.
We previously collaborated to create beautiful images for her website launch, and now that her site is live, she wanted fresh, professional food photography to showcase her expanding catering menu and services.

Kamy’s Kitchen offers a diverse catering menu, ranging from traditional Southern comfort food to gourmet fine dining and Italian specialty dishes. In addition to savory entrees, Kathy also provides a variety of baked goods, homemade sorbet, and artisan ice cream — available à la carte or as part of her full-service catering packages.
For this particular event, Kathy was catering a private going-away dinner party in Cape May Courthouse, NJ. On a gorgeous May evening, I arrived at her client’s home, ready to capture the beautiful food she prepared.
When photographing food on location, lighting is always key. The kitchen had a charming buffet space perfect for staging, but the natural window light wasn’t ideal at that time of day. To ensure the food looked as appetizing and vibrant as it tasted, I used my Godox V1 flash with an off-camera octagon softbox to create soft, flattering light for each dish.
Unlike some commercial food shoots that use artificial props, fake garnishes, or plastic stand-ins, my food photography is 100% real and authentic. These are the actual dishes Kathy prepared for the evening, no fake lettuce or styrofoam burgers here!

While photographing the plated food, I also offered to capture candid moments of the guests enjoying the evening. Too often, important events like private dinners, birthdays, or family gatherings go undocumented, or only captured through a few quick phone selfies.
